Our Commitment
Honoring the past. Securing the future. Understanding what landrace genetics are — and why they matter — is the first step.
The Stakes
A landrace is not simply an "old" variety. It is a living record of thousands of years of co-evolution — between the plant, the land, the climate, and the people who cultivated it.
When a landrace is lost, it cannot be recreated. The complex web of genetic traits shaped by centuries of selection — drought tolerance, altitude adaptation, pest resistance, fiber quality — disappears with it.
Commercial breeding has already eliminated countless traditional varieties in the name of yield and uniformity. Landraces are the genetic insurance policy that future breeders will need to adapt to a changing climate.
Browse Our CollectionHow We Work
Every variety we carry is traced to its region of origin. We work directly with local cultivators and seed banks to verify provenance before adding to our collection.
Each variety is maintained in strict geographic and temporal isolation to prevent cross-pollination. We preserve minimum viable population sizes to protect genetic diversity across generations.
Seeds are harvested at peak maturity, dried to optimal moisture content, and stored in temperature-controlled, oxygen-free environments to maximize viability over decades.
The best preservation is active stewardship. We distribute seeds to collectors who commit to proper storage, documentation, and returning seeds to keep the collection healthy.
Our Manifesto
Genetic diversity is the foundation of agricultural resilience. Every landrace lost is an irreplaceable piece of human heritage — and a narrowing of the genetic options available to future generations.
